VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

The Jack and Jill Kindergarten’s vision for reconciliation is to respectfully include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and perspectives into our everyday practices. By doing this in a respectful and meaningful way, we educate the children, families, and staff to deepen our collective understanding of the rich cultures and contributions of First Nations peoples of Australia.  We build meaningful connections with members of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and acknowledge that the Darug and Guringai Peoples have been, and continue to be, the Custodians of the Land in the Hornsby area. Our children already have a natural curiosity about the world and understand we need to protect it – we deepen this yearning for knowledge by learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives about caring for the Land. The Jack and Jill Kindergarten’s vision is to create an environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and all members of the Kindergarten community, feel welcome, safe, and supported and where we all live and learn together. It is also important that we continue to build connections with the local First Nations community based on respect and trust which will in turn create authentic inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives within our practice and learning experiences.
