VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Goodstart Lane Cove, we will continue to seek to understand, and to respectfully learn and shareabout, the diverse histories and cultures of First Nations peoples of Australia. We are committed to building trusting and respect-filled relationships, so that we can learn together with unity, and with diverse cultural identities and perspectives valued.

We believe that we have an important role to play in supporting reconciliation through the care and educational program we provide to children. We will continue to support reconciliation by promoting educators’ and children’s knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and building respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians.

We are committed to sustaining a culturally responsive workplace that understands and actively values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives, and an education and care environment that also fosters understanding of, and promotes respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.

In our service’s philosophy, programming and practice we uphold the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child. In the implementation of this Reconciliation Action Plan, we will also promote the principles outlined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Since our last published Reconciliation Action Plan (27 July 2022) we have significantly increased the frequency and quality of learning experiences that have a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and histories, rather than just celebrating significant days, and are committed to continuing to make quality improvements to the ways in which we make reconciliation part of everyday practice.
