Explore & Develop Annandale

Reconciliation at Explore & Develop Annandale follows a number of main ideas and is an ongoing journey existing from a collaborate effort. We aim to: • Gain knowledge about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures so our educators can confidently teach children and families about these histories and perspectives. Through this knowledge, children will have a better understanding from a younger age and, with this, a growing appreciation and respect for Australia’s First Peoples. • Acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the First People of Australia, and promote historical acceptance and healing. • Engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members and meaningfully integrate their perspectives into everyday practices so that all children can learn from these perspectives from a young age.

Throughout our reconciliation journey, we have continued to integrate these thoughts and ideas within our work as well as play to strengths of the different educators working within our service, which has helped to make the process more attainable with many successes along the way. Educators will continue to not only learning alongside the children, but also have their ideas challenged by the children, through their own interpretations of the knowledge that has been presented to them. This will give us, as educators, ongoing opportunities to reflect upon how we view the children and the way in which they perceive the world around them. In witnessing the powerful messages that the children at our service share with us, we will be able to maintain a strong sense of hope for the future of what it means to have a reconciled Australia.
