The Land we work, learn and meet on at Willsden Primary School in Port Augusta, is the Land of Barngarla people. Port Augusta is home for a diverse number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, from different Cultural/Language Groups whose deep connections have shaped the wider Willsden community. Our vision for reconciliation focuses on partnering with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. At Willsden Primary School, we recognise that reconciliation is an ongoing and multi-dimensional process and believe that to create a reconciled Australia, everyone must feel welcomed, respected, safe and equal. We believe reconciliation means listening and learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as we build positive relationships based on trust and mutual respect. We aim to learn the true histories of Australia and acknowledge the ongoing trauma that colonisation and racism has on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to valuing the culture diversity of Port Augusta and working in partnership with all Aboriginal Peoples in our community. The students of Willsden Primary are our community members and the leaders of future generations, and we strive for them to be a part of a reconciled Australia.
