VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Franklin School, we see a reconciled Australia as unified, accepting and harmonious. We see it as a place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people recognise that, in our diversity, all Australians have a shared history and a shared culture.

We will continue to create a place where people of all cultures, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and community members, feel safe to learn and celebrate together so that we can move towards a strong and robust future of reconciliation. We are committed to fostering equal and equitable opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and influencing generational change through collaborative leadership.

At Franklin, we recognise that we have a unique opportunity to drive progress towards reconciliation, particularly as many of our children and families have newly migrated to Australia and so have not necessarily grown up with pre-conceived attitudes or intergenerational, colonially biased prejudices about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to uniting our community by continuing to break down any perceived ‘us’ and ‘them’ binaries between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians. If we, as a school and community hub, model and teach the values of reconciliation, we can make the most of this opportunity.

We are committed to engaging with students and families, all school staff, local community members and education networks and respecting the centrality that culture plays in our reconciliation journey.
