Forrest Primary School

VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Forrest Primary School's vision for reconciliation is based on a shared understanding that reconciliation requires respect and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives within the school community. We are committed to developing and maintaining positive partnerships between the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and the school through meaningful connections with the curriculum, consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers and celebration of significant dates and achievements.

Forrest Primary School aims to provide an environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous students feel safe, supported and empowered to reach individual academic, social and emotional goals. We will do this through;

  • Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families to participate fully in school life.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers, ensuring consultation is undertaken regularly.
  • The continuation of The Indigenous Culture Club, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students explore their personal culture and histories with the assistance of family, teachers and volunteers.
  • Encouraging students to act as spokespersons for the school, sharing their knowledge of their heritage with the school community and promoting the shared vision of this Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Whole school participation in significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events such as NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day.
  • Embedding Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum, ensuring consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples takes place.
