VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Woodlands House and Lonsdale House Childcare and Outside School Hours Care Program’s Reconciliation Action Plan begins with our acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Lands across Australia, and our recognition that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s cultures and heritage shapes the cultural heritage of all Australians. Our vision encompasses 'Gnokan danna murra kor-ki' – “Give me your hand my friend” and let us bridge any inter-cultural inequalities and inequities. We aim to provide an environment which promotes mutual respect and where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children are treated with dignity and respect and all children in our care and education receive a curriculum and experiences that authentically consider the histories and cultures of Traditional Custodians. We commit to reconciliation to facilitate change in the next generation. By exploring issues of fairness, justice, equity and equality we hope to develop a sense of social justice in future generations. Educators are committed to providing a curriculum and environment that will improve cultural awareness and understanding among all children, as well as strengthening the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and local community members in Woodlands and Lonsdale House Childcare and Outside School Hours Care. We will provide authentic opportunities which will lead to sustainable outcomes for all our children, families, educators and wider community, and support our genuine commitment to reconciliation. We will promote an environment where local Elders are welcomed and supported to be involved in our community events and curriculum.
