Racism in Australia Today (Secondary)

overview

The media is pivotal in keeping the public informed on pressing issues.

However, the media also has the power to select, frame and endorse what is newsworthy. This means the media can have a big influence on how the public perceives an issue.

Help students to critically explore public sentiment around issues of racism, prejudice and discrimination as framed in media reports on events or issues in Australia.

It’s important to explore racism with other staff as a professional learning activity before using this resource to engage students.

Talking about racism and incidents involving racism in Australia can be traumatic. This may result in conflict in the classroom.
