Sentiments Behind the Significance (Early Learning)

overview

The way we commemorate days or weeks of national significance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people depends on why they are significant.

Is the day significant because:

  • it commemorates a sad or challenging time in Australia’s history?

  • it celebrates a positive moment in Australia’s reconciliation journey?

This activity gets children to reflect on the sentiments of significant dates and create cards to express them.

As they reflect and create, children develop their empathy skills.
